Jacksonville, Florida is big – the largest city by area (874 square miles) in the continental United States; the largest city in Florida in terms of population (813,518 in 2010); and the 21st largest school district within the United States (123,518 students). The school system, Duval County Public Schools, operates 172 schools in the county utilizing more than 8,400 teachers to deliver instruction.
Jacksonville has some of the best high schools in the nation according to Newsweek magazine, including Stanton College Preparatory School, Paxon School for Advanced Studies, and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Unfortunately, Jacksonville also has some of the lowest performing schools in Florida including William H. Raines High School, Jean Ribault High School and Andrew Jackson High School.
